In the movies and images, some blocks will be opaque (you cannot see inside the block, like the image on the left), whereas other blocks have sides that are partially transparent (you can see inside the block, like the image on the right). The transparent sides allow you to visualize the geometry of features inside the block, to better understand how these features are expressed on the sides and top of the block.
