This online course requires a computer, tablet, or phone equipped with standard programs, such as a browser and Adobe Reader. You will also need a fast internet connection because the online modules use many movie files, some of which are large (many megabytes in size). A dial-up connection will be too slow and frustrating, so if you have such a connection we recommend you use a site with a faster connection, like those at ASU or a library. In addition, your computer will need the following programs:
• Browser: any modern browser should work, but be aware that some browsers do not allow plug-ins, which will sometime prevent you from opening a movie. If this happens, download the movie to your computer to bypass the browser, or find a different browser to use.
• Movie player: all the movies for this lab have been converted to .mp4 so they should play on any video player.
• Adobe Reader: some material will be in PDF format, requiring Adobe Reader.
Lab materials for most weeks will be a series of web pages. You will navigate through these pages using a browser like Firefox, Chrome, Safari, or Microsoft Edge. In addition to information and images, most pages will have links, which are pictures or highlighted words that, when clicked on, jump you to a new page. The cursor changes from an arrow to a hand when the pointer is over a link. Click on the Back button to return to a previous page. When you are sure you are finished, or if you want to start over, you can close the browser by clicking on the “X” in the uppermost right corner of the screen or by choosing “Exit” in the “File” menu.
