Introduction to Geology in the Field - Spring 96

This was an experimental, nonmajors field class.

Great! This is the best class Iíve taken at ASU. Prof. Reynolds was enthusiastic and it carried on to the students.

I really enjoyed taking this class. I'm not much into rocks, but I knew I couldn't go wrong with a class taught by Steve, and I was right. I think this had to be one of the best classes offered at ASU because you're not stuck in a room for three hours and week, and you get to experience things hands on. This class was very enjoyable to attend. Steve was always full of energy and excited about where we were going and what we were doing. He would also interact with the class on a friend level instead of a teacher level. This made it easier to ask him for help whether it be about class matter or something else. I would love to take another class taught by Steve.

This is one of the top 3 classes I have had in my time here at ASU. If there was a problem with this course it was the lack of time to observe everything at the sites we visited. There was just to much to see in the tome we had. This class was an excellent supplement for geology 101, providing the opportunity to actually see what actual geological formations, rocks, processes... Look like in the field. Dr. Reynolds was a great instructor, allowing us to explore and observe, being available to answer questions, encouraging us to take good notes and think with all of us non-geology majors. I especially appreciated his enthusiasm for the class and for geology in general. I have already recommend dr. Reynolds' 101 class to several friend in need of a physical science, and I will continue to do so in the future.

This class was great. I thought it was much better then sitting in a classroom all day. Steve was very helpful and ready to help anytime. I think you should make this a science course for the science requirements. I bet you would get a lot of enthusiasm about the class.

I would take this course again and again, if possible. The instructor couldn't be any more enthusiastic or helpful. This course, due to the field oriented nature of the work, taught me more about geology and recognizing forms and processes than any other geology class Iíve ever had. Emphasis on field notes and report writing was extremely helpful. The field trip to northern AZ should be longer, though.

Steve, this class was a lot of fun. It was also very useful, although I personally would have liked more quaternary stuff.

Professor gave us the opportunity to experience a class that the non-geology major would not be able to experience. He is very enthusiastic and made the class very enjoyable.

Dr. Reynolds: thank you so much for teaching this class. It was one of the best classes I have ever taken. You really got me excited about geology, and have changed the way I look at my world. I would take this class over and over and over again. You are a great teacher and your enthusiasm is highly contagious. My only complaint is that I want more! Thank you again for offering this class. It was unforgettable.

I loved the class, and of course the teacher. I don't recall a class that I have learned so much in. I think it helped to be at the site instead of looking at pictures in the class. I'll probably keep thinking geology my whole life! Great class. Steve is very knowledgeable and is very good at making the students figure out what's going on.

Enthusiasm is an understatement. This is the second class Iíve taken with Reynolds. If he is ever teaching another class, Iíd like to take it. 394 was interesting because Reynolds made the topics understandable, and he even entertained us with the guitar. Reynolds, learn some Beatles tunes!

Dr. Reynolds is an out standing professor because he has so much knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject he is teaching. He always takes time to explain ideas cleanly and takes time to teach students in and outside of class. I have never been as interested in science as I am now after having as professor that encourages me to think on my own. Instead of memorizing terms. I was able to learn about geology and acquire the vocabulary as I went. Field geology is a fantastic course because you are able to understand the geologic development of the state by visiting important destinations. This was my best course at ASU ever! I wish all science courses were taught like Dr. Reynoldsí 101 and 384.
