Interpreting the Rock Record  

The image below shows rock columns taken from three different locations in the Grand Canyon.  A small section of the geologic time scale is displayed on the right so that you can see the age of the rock in the columns. 

Use the diagram above to answer the following questions on your worksheet.

1. Do you think this region experienced a transgression or regression during this time period?  How can you tell?

2. Did the sea move toward the west or toward the east?  How can you tell?
